Fabric Fun: Print & Paint

This is a half-day workshop similar to the Inktensity workshop of last year. Karen, our tutor, will join us via Zoom. Those wishing to join in can do so at home via Zoom or at Iffley Village Hall. For those at the Hall, we will start with lunch at 12.30 (bring your own packed lunch, we will provide tea/coffee).

Karen, our tutor, and those at home will join us via Zoom at 1.00 pm.

We will make a series of small printed and painted samples in this fun and informal workshop, ready to be developed with stitch and further embellishments if you wish.

Using low-tech materials and methods we will explore a variety of approaches to printing on fabric including monoprints for line and texture, rubbings & relief prints for shape and pattern, and found objects for interesting mark-making.

Combine with a slosh of paint and a smattering of spattering to create your own unique textile art!

£15 per person.

Flutterbies

Raised work is a form of embroidery in which the stitched motifs are raised from the surface of the work to form a three-dimensional effect.

Often referred to as stumpwork, raised work was popular in the seventeenth century and is now enjoying a resurgence of popularity among contemporary embroiderers.

A wide variety of techniques and materials are employed in raised embroidery.  In this workshop, we will cover just one technique using basic embroidery stitches and readily available materials to make a three-dimensional butterfly.  This class is suitable for all abilities including novice embroiderers.  We will discuss options for further embellishment and how to finish your butterfly.

Wires, fabrics, and threads will be available.  Participants will need to bring a hoop and a basic embroidery kit.

Members – £20; non-members – £35.

Mixing up textile techniques to create our own unique Fabric Recipes. A day of pure-play where we will explore exciting combinations and embrace happy accidents. Jayne will bring embellisher machines, needle felting tools, gel plates, a smocking machine, huge knitting needles and a wardrobe of exciting techniques.

She will also bring a carload of reclaimed and vintage textiles! There’s nothing like delving into someone else’s fabric stash! There will inevitably be tangled threads too and a big roll of water-soluble fabric.

Members – £35; non-members – £50.

Anna Woodhead

An Introduction to Paper Lamination

Laminating paper onto fabric is easy to do and offers a host of creative possibilities if you are interested in creating a complex, layered surface on cloth. The emphasis of this workshop with textile artist Anna Woodhead is on exploration and play, with a focus on process rather than outcome; perfect for those who are curious about paper lamination but don’t know where to start!

To begin with, the focus will be on the basics: the media, the different types of papers and fabrics suitable for this technique and the tools required and Anna will demonstrate the basic technique.

Using newsprint text and images you will make a series of samples whilst getting to grips with the key techniques. Once you understand the lamination process you can then begin to experiment with the possibilities or pursue your own ideas.

Please note the changed venue for this workshop:
Cassington Village Hall,
The Green, Cassington, Oxfordshire, OX29 4AX.

Members – £35; non-members – £50.
