About Textiles in Oxford

Textiles in Oxford is an independent stitch group (formerly known as the Oxford Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild). We are a friendly and enthusiastic group with a shared interest in embroidery, textile art, and mixed media. Some of us like to hand stitch, some prefer machine embroidery, and some of us just like to look. Some of us practice centuries old techniques and some of us are exploring contemporary ideas.

We offer a varied and interesting programme of guest speakers and workshops throughout the year.

If you love embroidery, textile art, or mixed media, come and join us.

Monthly Meetings

Iffley is a village in a designated Conservation Area in Oxfordshire, England. It lies within the boundaries of the city of Oxford and close to the River Thames (Isis). At the heart of the village is its largely unchanged Norman church, St Mary the Virgin. The church is listed as Grade I. The Church Hall is only a few yards from the Church and is a grade II-listed building. We meet in this characterful building on the second Wednesday of each month from 7 pm – 9 pm.

Several times a year we invite a guest speaker to share their work with us. Our program is as diverse as our membership and we aim to introduce some new and unexpected topics as well as textile artists our members may be familiar with. At least twice a year we hold social evenings with a bring-and-share supper and some stitch-related fun!  Members are welcome to join via Zoom.  For those who are able to attend in person, there are the additional benefits of a welcome beverage, social time, and seeing our speakers’ work in the flesh!

Please note that some meetings will be over Zoom only.  See Monthly Meetings for details of individual meetings.

A downloadable leaflet with the 2024 Programme and information is available here.

Meeting fees:  Members – free; Guests via Zoom – £8;  Guests at Iffley Village Hall – £10.

Workshops

We offer a minimum of three workshops per year. Workshops are usually held at Marsh Baldon Village Hall on a Saturday or over a weekend.  Some workshops may be held over Zoom only.

The hall is centrally located in this quaint village, about 5 miles southeast of Oxford.  It is a bright space with a well-equipped kitchen, disabled access and a car park.

Prices for workshops can vary but are usually around £35 for members and £50 for non-members.
